PSALM 115

The Idols

1 Not to us, O lord, not to us, but only to your name give glory, because of your mercy and your truth! 2 lest at any time [³should say ¹the ²nations], Where is their God? 3 But our God in the heaven and in the earth [²all ³as much as ⁴he wants ¹does]. 4 The idols of the nations are silver and gold -- works of the hands of men. 5 [²a mouth ¹They have], but they shall not speak; [²eyes ¹they have], but they shall not see; 6 [²ears ¹they have], but they shall not hear; [²noses ¹they have], but they shall not smell; 7 [²hands ¹they have], but they shall not handle; [²feet ¹they have], but they shall not walk; they shall not speak out loud through their throat. 8 [⁶likened ⁷to them ¹Let ⁵become ²the ones ³making ⁴them]! and all the ones yielding upon them. 9 The house of Israel hopes upon the lord; [²helper ³and ⁴defender ¹he is their]. 10 The house of Aaron hopes upon the lord; [²helper ³and ⁴defender ¹he is their]. 11 The ones fearing the lord hoped upon the lord; [²helper ³and ⁴defender ¹he is their]. 12 The lord was remembering us; he blessed us; he blessed the house of Israel; he blessed the house of Aaron; 13 he blessed the ones fearing the lord, the small with the great. 14 May the lord add unto you; unto you and unto your sons. 15 You are being blessed by the lord, the one making the heaven and the earth. 16 The heaven of the heaven belongs to the lord; but the earth he gave to the sons of men. 17 [⁴not ¹The ²dead ³shall] praise you, O lord, nor all the ones going down into Hades. 18 But we the living, we shall bless the lord from the present and unto the eon.
